Coke…

The first coca-cola was invented in a drugstore in Georgia by John Smith Pemberton in 1885, then in the following year, it was first sale in Jacob’s Pharmacy in Georgia, May 8 1886. It was sold as patent madecine for 5 cents a glass at soda funtains, which where popular in the united state at that time due to people believed that carbonated water was good for health. Pemberton claimed that coke could cure many diseases, but in the first 8 months, only 9 drinks were sold each days. In 1888, he incorporated the company coca cola. Coca-Cola was sold in bottles for the first time on 12 March 1894. Cans of Coke first appeared in 1955. The first bottling of Coca-Cola occurred in Mississppi at the Biedenharn Candy Company in 1891. Its proprietor was Joseph A. Biedenharn. The original bottles were Biedenharn bottles, very different from the much later hobble-skirt design that is now so familiar. Asa Candler was tentative about bottling the drink, but the two entrepreneurs who proposed the idea were so persuasive that Candler signed a contract giving them control of the procedure. However, the loosely termed contract proved to be problematic for the company for decades to come. Legal matters were not helped by the decision of the bottlers to subcontract to other companies—in effect, becoming parent bottlers.

A new coke was created in 1985, which is the orginal coke we drink now, they did a test that consumers preffered the new taste bwtween the old ones and pessi.

Read this…coz the god need to think about this…

Some day while I was in Boston, I talked about the god with my host family’s father, I asked him whether the god is omnipotent, he winked and said yes, then I asked, ‘do you think that the god can do something that he cannot not do, such as whether he can creat a mountain that he cannot move, if he cannot, is he still omnipotnet? ‘well, he should be omnipotent’ he said and shrugged. I then joked that the god can do everything basic on logic…Laughing…

well guys~~there is the Monty Hall problem/paradox. some bloody silly guys says that the probability of choosing a car should be 0.5 (pasibility is not percentage). ocasionally, I am learning posibility now in mel…let’s discuss it…

the original question: suppose you are on a game show, and you are given the choice of three doors: behind one door is a car, behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say NO.1, and the host, who knows what is beind the doors, opens another door, say NO.3, which has a goat. He the says to you, “Do you want to pick NO.2?” Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?

here is my solution…

if the player switch from D1 to D2 or D3, he will lost the car, and the total posibility is 1/6+1/6 =1/3.(why it is 1/6? P(D1)*P(D2(3)=1/6). the other choices, if the player change, he will get the car , so the posibility of getting a car after switching is 2/3.

why it is not 1/2 to get a car, it is bacause the first two situations’ posibiities are not 1/4…

Let’s discuss…

Movie Review

Movie review

Philadelphia was a movie directed by Jonathan Demme, published in 1993. The main character, Andrew Beckett played by Tom Hanks, and Densal Washington as Joe Miller. The movie itself was a very touching story, but what was more that it carry out the problem that the gay and aids people facing at that time.

Andrew Demme, a young gay lawyer works in Philadelphia, found out that infected by the aids. Since people’s discrimination to the gay people, his bossed fired him with a ridiculous reason, indeed, he just didn’t want to employ a gay lawyer carrying aids. He decided to sue the company, however the only lawyer who can help him is Joe Miller. At first, Joe hated homosexual, but after he knew Andrew’s situation, he decided to help Andrew to get what he should gain. Then the war in the court started, Joe showed his intelligence and skilled on the court, finally, they won, and they deserved this result. However, Andrew could not be treated, he was dying.

The performances of this two artistes are fabulous, the characters of a gay people with aids, were well represented by Tom Hanks, he showed their thinking and emotions. I cannot say that I have fully understood this film, but story and the performance shock me, deep in my heart. Everyone is born to be the same; everyone is born to be fair. But how is Andrew, how about him, did he be treated fairly? No, he didn’t. he was abandon and discriminated. From the movie, from the performance of the characters, I knew how painful it was for Andrew, Andrew’s family and his friends. Does it really matter that whom they sleep with?

Many people just speak and behave as the others without their own opinion; these will make the people who are struggling in the dispute become more difficult. They become another invisible pressure for the people like Andrew.

A successful film can impact and reflect many things exist in the society, obviously, Philadelphia is a successful movie, it made us to re-recognize our value judgment, are all the principles now in our moral are right? Do we really respect all the others and treat fairly or we just wear the mask of justice.

Afterthought of an interview of Gandhi

Afterthought of an interview of Gandhi

Gandhi, the leader of the India national lib, a great politician and ideologist, he stood for truth and nonviolence. When he was 13, he married a girl with the same age under his parents’ command. 3 years later, his father died. At the age of 19, he went to London for further study, and then he became a lawyer. Afterwards, he went to South Africa to handle a case, during this period, he formed his value judgment. During March and April 1919, he first began the nonviolence resistance. He was killed by a craze Sikh.

During the interview, as I asked him many question about his life and proposition, I found that he is a real hero, not only for India but also for the whole world. And his answers enlightened me a lot.

I asked him: ‘how do you think of your achievement—the liberation of India.’

He answered, it is not my achievement, it is an achievement of Indian people, no one on the world deserved to be a slave, so there would be no salvation in India, .

I asked: ‘how do you regard this victory?’

He said: ‘ for why we won at last, it is because we insist the truth.’

I asked: ‘how do you think of the things you have done?’

He answered: ‘ whatever you do is insignificant, but it is important that you do it. And be the change you want to see in the world.’

I realized a lot after this interview, violence couldn’t solve the problem radically; we should try to solve the problem in a peaceful way. And we must learn to respect the others, not because what kind of value they have, but they are human beings. This is what he said, he showed his respect to all the lives, not only human but also animals; not only his mates, but also his enemies. Another thing that he taught me was that, if you want to change the world, change yourself first. What I can felt from him is love, a heart filled with love, he used his love to reclaim people.

Change the World

There are many things happening on the world in every single second, in the mid east, now there might having a fire, in the Africa, now many children might lose their life as they have not enough food or they can not afford a medical treatment, in Sicuan china, many people might be still suffering the sadness caused by the earthquake disaster. What can we do? Pray to the god that all these suffering could disappear from the earth? What I can say is that praying cannot change anything. Can we change the world? You might, but for me, as a normal senior school student in Australia, I don’t think that I have that ability to change all these thing at these moment, all I can do is just make the best wishes to them, however, as a unique individual, any of us is the small world live in the big world, if all of us change a little, then we can change the world.

Obviously, I am too small to change the big world, but as Francis Bacon said, ‘knowledge is power’, and power can change things. So store enough knowledge is the first step to change the world in my plan, unfortunately, I am not the guy who love to stay in the school, how come? Don’t ask me, I don’t know either. For this, I think I should change myself (small world), actually change my attitude…schedule…from next semester…

‘I have a dream’ is a famous speech made by Martin Luther King, I have a dream too, now it is still a secret, but when I achieve it in the future, you guys will all know it. For me, I think dream is not only a dream, it is where your motivation comes from, it is a belief that supporting you to overcome all the difficulties. Dream is needful but not dispensable. Set up my dream in a correct direction is my second step.

Hahaha, here is the final step, and it is a decisive step, whether I can change the world all depends on this step, no matter the big one or the small one. It is to carry out all I have said above, it seems to be the easiest one, if you do think like this, what I can tell you is that you are totally wrong, there are six billion people all over the world, it is not grandiloquent to say that most of the people have their own plan, but however many people can act as what they plan? A thousand-miles journey begins with the first step (not the first step above=_=). I think I am going to take off my first step.

NO More Pork???

Expository essay

By Patrick Chen

No more pork???

Do we eat pork everyday? No, we might not, but pork must be one of most common food in our daily life. Could you believe that in china there are many families who could afford pork for 3 or 4 times per week, now can just afford it once a week, why?

It is a little strange and complicated, isn’t it? China’s economy is exploding, but how could some working families in china are not able to afford for pork? It’s because the prices of pork increased much more rapidly than the increase of the working families’ income. The main reason is that the development of the biological energy, even it seems to be a little ridiculous but it is absolutely well founded. Since the development of the biological energy in these two years, the prices of agricultural goods such as corns rise rapidly, in a chain reaction, the price of the pannage immediately rise, the final result is the price of pork rises in a disproportionately speed compared to the last few years.

In the other aspect, since the employees in china get a higher wage, affected by the income effect, the price of pork rises as well as the demand of pork rises. But as what is said above, after the price of pannage rises, it will lead to a rise in the production cost, the producers will cut down the amount of supply, the demand increases, but the supply decreases, the result can be seen easily, the price of pork rises.

How can the government changes this situation, there are several methods or program they could carry out, first of all, using too much resources to develop the biological energy is error, because the biological energy is not a practical way to solve the problem of lacking energy in a long term, the government should stop or change this atmosphere. Secondly, the government should prop up the pig raisers to make the supply become normal.

In the end, one more problem should be recommended, through the rises of pork price, it has shown that the China government is facing a very serious problem of the domestic inflation. If this problem can not be solved properly, the effort that the china government has made in building the Chinese economy during the last decade might be wasted.

Oh my god…
